The Art of Ritual

Most truly special occasions have an element of ceremony and ritual. For thousands of years, humankind has embraced ritual to strengthen social bonds, sustain spiritual teachings and celebrate the joy of being.

Rituals are symbolic, a way of connecting us to something beyond our individual selves and guiding us to reverence. They can be elaborate or simple, take hours and even days to perform, or take less than a minute and still be filled with richness and depth.

The more we embrace ritual, the more we invite the sacred into our lives. I invite you to bring a “ritual awareness” to a few of the simple things in your life this week and experience how easy it is to turn the mundane into the magical.

The next time you have a sip of water, take it with awe and gratitude for the miracle of water. When you walk out your door, drink in the sky and whatever nature is around you with the same gratitude and awe. Light a candle, gaze into the flame, cultivate awareness, pay attention. This is the practice of integrating simple ritual into a conscious life. Explore what it has to offer you!
